Civility or Truth

As the President gave his address to congress on September 9th, a Republican Congressman named Joe Wilson yelled out, “You Lie” as the President lied about coverage for illegal aliens.  I don’t want to get too bogged down with the President’s lies, as that is not the point I am making here.  It is true that there is no specific wording in the bill, read HR3200, regarding illegal aliens receiving free, (for them), health care.  Senate Democrats have been working to close the loopholes that were brought into the limelight by Joe Wilson.

I find it troubling, yet expected, that whether Obama is telling the truth or not is of no concern to those on the left.  It is the supposed lack of civility of Congressman Joe Wilson that is of utmost importance in this matter.  Many of these same Democrats were on the floor of congress in 2005 and booed President George W. Bush when he made the point that Social Security needed to be reformed or by 2042 it would be bankrupt or would require steep tax increases to keep it afloat.

This was met with uncivil boos by many Democrats in the congress and senate.  No mention was ever made that these men and women should apologize.  Nancy Pelosi wasn’t wringing her hands and wondering what happened to civility in the United States of America.  Back then in the good old days, 4 years ago, civility didn’t seem to matter to Democrats.  Dissing Bush was of utmost importance his entire 8 years in office.  Republicans weren’t demanding apologies from these uncivil Democrats.  The President in 2005 didn’t call for apologies from Democrats.  Now one man in the Republican party says, “You lie”, and he must learn to be more civil.  He needs to be civil like us booing Democrats.  Cry me a river Democrats!  This man shouldn’t have apologized to the President and he shouldn’t, and it appears won’t, apologize on the floor of congress.    Why should Joe Wilson apologize when the Democrats caused much more of a snag in decorum during Bush’s speech and got off without even being asked for an apology, much less giving one.

Does it not matter to anyone on the left that Obama was indeed lying?  Is civility to be honored so much as to be above all else?  Has civility come to be adored so much in our society as to be courted even above truth?  Is truth to be eschewed if it cannot be brought in with civility?  Were our founders always civil?  Wouldn’t it have been far more civil to sit down over tea and discuss quietly our differences with the British crown over taxation without representation than pour that tea into the harbor and then to kick British tail?  Was it civility that caused Patrick Henry to say, “Give me liberty or give me death”?  Democrats and your henchmen in the government controlled news media, the double standards are really getting old and the American people are growing tired of being lectured by you, while you practice the very thing for which you lecture us.

Was the president civil when he called those who have mentioned a board that would be responsible for rationing healthcare, liars?  In this case he was both uncivil and a liar.  In my not so humble opinion it is ALWAYS uncivil to call truth, a lie and to call a lie, the truth.  It is almost never uncivil to speak the truth and to call a lie exactly what it is, a LIE.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.”

“Some of people’s concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren’t so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.”  No Mr. President, this would be laughable if your policy of getting rid of the elderly and undesirables such a cynical and irresponsible act.  This piece of the bill was stricken from the pages when the “death panel” was brought to light.  You are a liar and wouldn’t know civility if it kicked William Ayers out of Lincoln’s bed to spend the night at the White House.
